Trees Call to Action Project

In July 2022, the Heart of England Forest, in partnership with Stratford-on-Avon, Warwick, and Wychavon District Councils, together launched the ambitious Trees Call to Action Project (TCAP), in response to the significant climate and biodiversity crises we face.

The partnership works collaboratively with landowners and local communities to find ways to increase tree cover across the landscape.

A lack of trees and woodland impacts negatively on biodiversity, people’s health, and our changing climate. However, land managers do not always have the knowledge and skills to plant and care for trees; or they may prioritise alternative land uses. Consequently, people have less access to trees and woodlands with fewer opportunities to engage and can feel disconnected from nature.

The TCAP advisors can provide support:

For Landowners / Farmers

  • Custom consultation and advice in planning and design for: woodlands, hedgerows, spinneys, copses, riparian strips, orchards, trees in a farming setting (agroforestry), alley cropping / coppice systems, individual trees and shelterbelts
  • Support to access funding
  • Advice and support to find the right contractor

For Community Groups and Schools

  • Custom consultation and advice in planning and design for: woodlands, small copses/ spinneys, hedgerows, orchards, parkland style and trees for shade
  • Support with species selection (right tree in the right place for the right reason)
  • Support to access funding, community action, planting, and maintenance training

TCAP Ambitions

  • To expand tree and woodland coverage across the districts to benefit the environment and communities.
  • Develop and maintain vital tree planting skills in support of trees and woodlands.
  • To support the local economy and provide employment.
  • Provide volunteers with the skills and knowledge to plant, care and maintain trees and woodland.

The project funds four full time staff who can provide free help, guidance and support to land managers and communities across the region to plant more trees, woodlands, hedges, and orchards whilst building the skills among local people to connect them to their natural resources.
